THE MASSES ADVOCATE. End of an Era: Fr. Stephen Onyema Concludes Six Years of Spirited Service at Kaduna's Catholic Social Centre


Kaduna, Nigeria – Tears and heartfelt tributes marked an emotional farewell on Thursday at the St. John Paul II Catholic Social Centre, as Rev. Fr. Stephen Onyema concluded his impactful six-year tenure as chaplain. The atmosphere was charged with gratitude and reflection as Fr. Onyema delivered a poignant speech, reminiscing about a journey defined by faith, community, and unwavering dedication.
Addressing a gathering of parishioners, friends, staff, and well-wishers, Fr. Onyema shared profound sentiments of appreciation for the shared experience.

 "When I arrived here six years ago, I came with the desire to serve, to listen, to walk with you in faith, and to be a humble instrument in God’s vineyard," he stated, his voice resonating with emotion. "Looking back now, I see not just years gone by, but a journey shared – one filled with grace, laughter, challenges, and growth."
Drawing inspiration from scripture, specifically Romans 8:25 and Philippians 1:3–5, the cleric underscored the virtues of patience, faith, and gratitude that guided his mission. 

He affectionately described the chaplaincy as far more than a place of worship, referring to it as a "living family" that exemplified the core values of hospitality, love, dialogue, and compassion.

Fr. Onyema extended his sincere thanks to all who supported him throughout his ministry.

 He acknowledged the steadfast backing of the Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Rev. Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, for entrusting him with the spiritual care of the Chaplaincy, as well as the tireless efforts of the Centre's management and staff. Special recognition was also given to the dedicated Chaplaincy executives, including John Raphael, Adejoke Adeyinka, Elizabeth Bakery, Susan Mbateleve, and Elizabeth Ayuba.

His heartfelt gratitude also extended to the broader community – parents, friends, and parishioners – whose unwavering support was a constant source of strength. "You have been more than a community; you have been a source of strength and encouragement for the past six years," he affirmed.

As Fr. Onyema prepares to embark on a new assignment, he humbly requested continued prayers and pledged to forever carry the love and cherished memories of the community with him.

 His departure marks the close of a significant chapter, leaving behind a legacy of spiritual growth and profound community connection.
