Senator Natasha Fined N5 Million for Contempt Over "Satirical Apology" to AkpabioAbuja, Nigeria – In a significant legal development today, the Federal High Court in Abuja found Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the suspended lawmaker representing Kogi Central, guilty of contempt of court. The ruling, delivered by Justice Binta Nyako, stems from a "satirical apology" she posted on her Facebook page on April 7, directed at Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The court determined that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan's actions violated a standing gag order that had been previously placed on both parties involved in the case. Justice Nyako stated that her Facebook post ridiculed the court's directive. As a consequence of the ruling, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has been ordered to issue a formal apology within seven days. This apology must be published in two national newspapers and also on her Facebook page. Additionally, she was handed a N5 million fine for civil contempt. While Senate President Akpabio had filed the contempt charge against her, the court notably declined to grant any direct relief in his favor. This judgment precedes a highly anticipated decision in a separate lawsuit filed by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, in which she is challenging the Senate's six-month suspension of her.
