"Jubilee of Hope" Pilgrimage: St. Jude Thaddeus Society of Nigeria Visits Benin City, Archbishop Akubeze

As part of their 2025 National Annual General Meeting (AGM), the St. Jude Thaddeus Society of Nigeria embarked on a "Jubilee of Hope" pilgrimage to the St. Jude Thaddeus Shrine in Benin City, which culminated in a visit to Archbishop Augustine Obiora Akubeze.

A Pious Welcome from Archbishop Akubeze expressed his joy in receiving the society members, who had traveled from various dioceses across Nigeria.

He shared his appreciation for their prayers, noting that the spiritual act would also bless the local archdiocese.

The Archbishop recalled his own personal history with St. Jude, sharing that when he was a seminarian in the 1980s, his mother made sure her offering to St. Jude came before his own pocket money.
He assured the attendees that God would take care of their families while they were away, reminding them, "you do not do anything for God without getting your reward."

The Pilgrimage: A Journey of Rest, Renewal, and Reconciliation:

Rev. Fr. Dominic Mbomson, OP, the National Chaplain, explained that the pilgrimage was more than just a physical journey; it was an "interior spiritual movement."

He emphasized that the goal was to have a genuine encounter and to unite with their patron saint, St. Jude Thaddeus. Fr. Mbomson outlined three key themes for the Jubilee Year pilgrimage: Rest, Renewal, and Reconciliation.

He explained that these concepts originated from the Jewish tradition of a Jubilee year, a time for introspection and spiritual realignment.

A Successful AGM with a Lasting Message:

Dr. Godwin Ukel, KSM, the National President, reflected on the success of the AGM, highlighting the pilgrimage as a key achievement.

He said the AGM allowed members to review the past year and plan for the future. He urged all members to embrace the society's motto: "prayer, action, and sacrifice."

Magistrate Godwin Onah, the immediate past National President, described the event as a "spirit-filled" and "rewarding" experience.

He noted that as "pilgrims of Hope," attendees were reminded to leave with renewed hope, a key virtue for followers of St. Jude, the patron saint of difficult and desperate cases.
