Dr. Aneni Elected President, Vows to Transform Sacred Heart Society into 'A School of Saints and a Battalion of Charity'

Benin City, Nigeria – November 29, 2025 – The Association of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary in the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin City has inaugurated a new executive council following its Archdiocesan election held today, November 29, 2025, at St Paul's Catholic Church, Airport Road.

​Dr. Aneni Tom emerged as the new Archdiocesan President, succeeding Mrs. Aliu Bernadette Celine.

​A New Vision for Transformation

​In his acceptance speech, Dr. Tom warmly appreciated the members and immediately cast a transformative vision for the Society. He announced plans to move the association "from a traditional devotional group to a dynamic, transformative force," fully aligning it with the renewed Evangelization efforts of the Archdiocese of Benin.

​His vision is built upon three core pillars:

  1. ​Deepened Spirituality
  2. ​Evangelizing Mission
  3. ​Communal Witness

​Key Vision Statement

​Dr. Tom articulated a clear goal for the Society to become "a beacon of Christ's love and mercy in the Archdiocese of Benin," focusing on fostering profound personal conversion and empowering members to be "missionary disciples who actively build a culture of Sacred Heart love, Immaculate Heart purity, and compassionate service."

​The new leadership aims for several key outcomes, including:

  • ​Increased vibrant membership, particularly among young families and youth.
  • ​The Society gaining a reputation as a pillar of prayer, evangelization, and charity.
  • ​Tangible growth in parish/centre spiritual life and a decrease in religious indifference.
  • ​Stronger, holier families consecrated to the Two Hearts.
  • ​Becoming a powerful, visible force contributing to the overall mission of the Archdiocese.

​Dr. Tom concluded by stating that this vision reframes the Society "not as a club for the pious, but as a school of saints and a battalion of charity, ready to set the world ablaze with the love emanating from the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary."

​Newly Elected Archdiocesan Officers

​The following officers were also elected to serve alongside Dr. Aneni Tom:

​The Vice President is Mrs. Osayande Mercy, the General Secretary is Mrs. Egwaikhide Edith, the Assistant Secretary is Mrs. Ogechi Don, and the Treasurer is Mrs. Adeyemi Anne. Also elected are the Financial Secretary, Mrs. Ogbikaya Monica; Promoter, Mr. Ayegbeni Joseph; Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Oghoanina Julian; Registrar, Alison Asabu; Archdiocesan Tarcisian Coordinator, Simire Agatha; Internal Auditor, Mr. Nzekwesi Cyril; Night Adorer Coordinator, Mrs. Osahon Jane; Social Welfare, Halium Christy; and the immediate past President, Mrs. Aliu Bernadette Celine, who is now the Ex-Officio.
