Delta APC Convergence in Asaba: Stakeholders Unite to Fortify Party Structure Ahead of Congresses
ASABA – In a significant move toward political consolidation, stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State converged at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Asaba, on Friday. The high-level meeting focused on internal unity, the ongoing E-Registration exercise, and strategic grassroots mobilization ahead of the party’s forthcoming congresses.
Leadership Driven by Unity
Addressing the gathering of party leaders and members, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori emphasized that the legitimacy of leadership is rooted in humility, empathy, and service to the people. He issued a strong call for members to prioritize collective interests over personal ambitions to shield the party from unnecessary friction.
“Unity remains the party’s greatest strength,” the Governor noted, adding that the strength of the party’s structure today will determine its electoral success in the 2027 general elections.
The Governor further stressed that the volume of votes delivered for President Bola Tinubu and other elective positions would be the ultimate measure of the state’s political influence and its ability to attract federal development.
Strategic Directives and Consensus
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Chief Festus Keyamo, SAN, urged members to maintain absolute focus. While praising the progress of the e-registration exercise, he cautioned against delays and rumors, advising local leaders to engage in early consensus-building to reduce tensions before the congresses begin.
Adding to the call for harmony, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, thanked the Governor for his inclusive approach. He described the gathering at the Government House as a landmark gesture of unity and pledged his commitment to strengthening the APC alongside all stakeholders.
Grassroots Mobilization and E-Registration
Former Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa commended the sustained engagement of the members. He urged leaders to take the e-registration exercise directly to the homes and communities of the people to ensure comprehensive coverage.
National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Felix Morka, also lauded the digitalization of the membership register, recommending a consensus-based approach to the upcoming congresses to ensure a seamless transition.
Zonal Reports and Progress
State APC Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, highlighted the party’s momentum, noting that the APC has seen over 90% realignment since April 2025. District chairmen provided updates on their respective areas:
- Delta Central: Chief Paulinus Akpeki reported strong progress, with Okpe Local Government leading the state in registration.
- Delta North: Ogbueshi Adizue Eluaka confirmed peace in the district despite minor registration hurdles.
- Delta South: Prince Austin Oribioye called for the resolution of technical glitches to ensure all targets are met.
State E-Registration Coordinator, Prince Fred Mordi, expressed confidence in meeting the registration deadlines, noting that Delta State’s selection to host the South-South training underscores its importance in the national party structure.
The meeting concluded on a somber note with a minute of silence observed in honor of the late Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who formerly represented Delta North Senatorial District.
