Hope Restored: Delta Central Flood Victims Applaud President Tinubu and Senator Dafinone as Massive Relief Distribution Sweeps the District

-By Ruben Mario Brodrick

In a significant show of federal responsiveness, thousands of residents across the Delta Central Senatorial District have expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Ede Dafinone following the strategic distribution of vital relief materials. The intervention, aimed at victims of the 2025 flood and windstorm disasters, has brought much-needed succor to families who lost homes, farmlands, and livelihoods to the elements.

A Lifeline for Devastated Communities

The relief operation, a post-disaster intervention by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), was personally facilitated by Senator Dafinone (APC, Delta Central). The distribution exercise kicked off in the Sapele axis before expanding into the heart of the district, reaching communities that bore the brunt of the 2025 calamities.

Key areas targeted for the rollout included:

  • Udu Local Government: Ogbe-Udu and surrounding enclaves.
  • Ughelli North & South: Communities such as Okwagbe, Evwreni, and Uwheru.
  • Sapele Axis: Vitafoam, Community Road Amukpe, Town Gate Okirigwre, Ojolu, Gana, and Orhiakpa.

Comprehensive Aid for Recovery

Recognizing that the disasters stripped families of basic necessities, the relief package was meticulously curated to address immediate nutritional and domestic needs. Beneficiaries received a wide array of items, including:

  • Food Supplies: Bags of rice, garri, beans, salt, spaghetti, seasoning cubes, canned tomatoes, and vegetable/groundnut oil.
  • Health & Household Items: Treated mosquito nets, towels, and specialized maternity dresses for expectant and nursing mothers.

Senator Dafinone, represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Justin Uloho, emphasized that the gesture was designed to "ease the hardship" and ensure that no resident is left behind in the recovery process. Chief Uloho specifically lauded President Tinubu as a "compassionate leader" whose administration remains sensitive to the plight of the grassroots.

Voices from the Ground: Gratitude and Political Goodwill

The atmosphere at the distribution points was one of relief and renewed hope. In Evwreni Kingdom, APC chieftain Chief Ohare Victor described the Senator’s efforts as "high-quality representation," noting that the intervention successfully reached those still reeling from the cumulative effects of recent flood cycles.

The impact was felt most deeply by individuals like Mrs. Blessing Ogheneovo, who shared that the items would be the primary catalyst for her family's survival after losing nearly everything last year. Similarly, Mrs. Mary Efe, a nursing mother, praised the government for including maternity items, stating that it proved the "government truly cares."

Beyond the humanitarian impact, the exercise has solidified political support for the Senator. Beneficiaries in Evwreni, such as Emoregha Tina, pledged their continued loyalty, citing the Senator's ability to bring "federal presence" directly to their doorsteps.

Transparency and Continued Commitment

To ensure the materials reached the intended victims, officials from the NEMA Benin Zonal Office were on-site to monitor the process. Their presence guaranteed transparency, orderly documentation, and fair distribution across all locations.

The Chief Liaison Officer in Sapele, Chief Patrick Akamuvba, and the Udu Liaison Officer, Engr. Peter Oputu, both reiterated that this is part of a larger, sustained collaboration between the legislative and executive arms of government. They assured the public that Senator Dafinone remains committed to aligning federal interventions with the Delta State Government’s broader recovery efforts.

As the distribution continues to move through Delta Central, the message from the people is clear: the bridge between the federal government and the local communities has never felt stronger.
