Okaeben Takes Helm at Edo Arts Ministry, Pledges "Enviable Destination" Under Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda

BENIN CITY – The newly appointed Commissioner for Arts, Culture & Creative Economy, Hon. Chris Ewere Okaeben, has officially assumed duty with a call for a paradigm shift in productivity, innovation, and staff discipline.

​During his maiden meeting with ministry personnel, Hon. Okaeben outlined his vision for the sector, emphasizing that the Ministry is central to the success of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s "SHINE Agenda." He urged the workforce to operate as a "united family," noting that synergy and shared purpose are the only ways to meet the administration's ambitious mandates.

Key Highlights of the Commissioner’s Address:

  • A Call for Innovation: Okaeben challenged staff to move beyond traditional routines by developing new ideas to boost the state's creative economy.
  • Discipline & Professionalism: He stressed that performance would be measured by dedication and a commitment to professional excellence.
  • Building on Legacy: The Commissioner promised to consolidate the gains of his predecessors while steering the Ministry toward "an enviable destination."
  • ​"I call on you to be committed to your duties, ensure collective effort, and foster the cooperation necessary for successful delivery," Okaeben stated.


    A Seasoned Administrator at the Helm

    ​The Permanent Secretary, Iryn Omorogiuwa Esq., welcomed the Commissioner, expressing confidence that his extensive background in public service would be an asset to the Ministry.

    ​Hon. Okaeben brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served in high-profile positions, including:

    • Member, Edo State House of Assembly (Two-term representative for Oredo West).
    • Commissioner for Youth & Sports.
    • Senior Special Assistant to former Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
    • Executive Director, Petroleum Monitoring Committee.

    Staff Commitment

    ​In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary pledged the full cooperation of the staff, describing them as "highly motivated" and ready to work alongside the Commissioner to transform the fortunes of the state's arts and culture sector.

    ​Hon. Okaeben was sworn in by Governor Monday Okpebholo last December, marking a new chapter for the creative economy in Edo State.
