Political Shake-up: Atiku Abubakar’s Son Defects to APC, Rebrands Support Group for Tinubu’s 2027 Reelection
-By Ruben Mario Brodrick
In a move that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political landscape, Abba Atiku Abubakar, the son of former Vice President and PDP chieftain Atiku Abubakar, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This high-profile cross-carpeting is not merely symbolic; Abba has immediately committed to mobilizing grassroots support for the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 polls. The defection was formalized in a high-level reception where he was welcomed by the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, and the APC National Vice Chairman (North East), Mustapha Salihu, signaling the strategic importance the ruling party attaches to this development.
Further cementing his new political allegiance, Abba Atiku Abubakar has taken the bold step of rebranding his personal political machinery. His established group, formerly known as the Atiku Haske Organisation, has been renamed the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation.
This transition marks a significant pivot from his father’s long-standing presidential ambitions to the "Renewed Hope" agenda of the current administration. By aligning with the APC, Abba is positioned to play a pivotal role in the North East’s political theater, potentially altering the traditional voting blocs associated with his family name as the nation begins its early descent into the 2027 election cycle.
