Rivers Crisis Explodes Again: Assembly Accuses Fubara's Camp of Plotting Secret Court Order to Block Impeachment!

-By Ruben Mario Brodrick

Rivers State is boiling as the political war between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor-turned-FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, hits a dangerous new level.

Just days after the pro-Wike faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly kicked off fresh impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, the lawmakers have sounded a fresh alarm over a desperate legal counter-move.

In a bombshell statement issued today, January 11, 2026, the Assembly—led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule—revealed they have uncovered a sinister plot by individuals linked to the executive arm to rush to a High Court outside Port Harcourt to obtain a secret ex parte order.

This injunction, they claim, is intended to illegally freeze the legislature’s constitutional duties and halt the impeachment process without a fair hearing. Assembly spokesperson Enemi Alabo George fired back at the alleged plot, declaring that no court order can stop the house from performing its duties.

This escalation follows the January 8 plenary where 26 lawmakers signed and read out seven charges of gross misconduct against Fubara, including spending over ₦800 billion outside the 2026 budget, withholding statutory funds from the Assembly Service Commission, and defying Supreme Court rulings on legislative autonomy.

The tension has become so thick that President Bola Tinubu has reportedly summoned both Wike and Fubara for emergency talks in France to douse the flames before the state is consumed by the friction.

Meanwhile, the people of Rivers State remain the ultimate victims as governance stalls, projects are abandoned, and investors flee due to what many describe as a "godfather war" for the soul of the state.

While Fubara has urged calm, assuring supporters that everything will be alright, the raging impeachment and the flying legal plots leave the future of his administration hanging by a thread.

Nigeria can no longer watch Rivers burn for the sake of political egos; the state belongs to the people, and they deserve peace, development, and leaders who put the public interest above personal power struggles.
