UNIBEN Makes History: Over 15,000 Students Inducted as VC Unveils 20 New Programs in Record-Breaking Matriculation

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has officially entered a new era, shattering its previous enrollment records by welcoming a staggering 15,077 new students for the 2025/2026 academic session. This historic intake represents the largest single-session admission in the institution’s long-standing history, signaling a major expansion in the university's capacity and academic reach.

Speaking during the matriculation ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, revealed that this surge in numbers is closely tied to the university's strategic growth. A significant portion of the new intake consists of pioneer students for approximately 20 newly introduced academic programs, which have been designed to align the institution with modern global demands and professional trends.

Despite the unprecedented volume of admissions, Prof. Omoregie was firm in his assertion that quality was not sacrificed for quantity. He emphasized that every student earned their place through a process conducted strictly on merit, ensuring that the high academic standards of "Great Benin" remain uncompromised.

Turning his attention to student conduct, the Vice-Chancellor issued a stern reminder of the university's rigid disciplinary framework. He warned the fresh matriculants that the institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward cultism, drug abuse, and examination malpractice. He urged the new students to embrace a culture of excellence and integrity, reminding them that while the university offers vast opportunities, it remains a disciplined environment where only hard work and character are rewarded.

By the end of the ceremony, the message was clear: UNIBEN is growing in size and scope, but its commitment to producing graduates of high moral and intellectual standing remains as firm as ever.
