A Beacon of Honesty: Borno Police Constable Returns ₦2.6 Million Mistakenly Credited to His Account

In an era where public trust in law enforcement is often under scrutiny, Alhaji Muhammad, a Police Constable attached to the Borno State Command, has set a powerful example of integrity. Muhammad recently returned the sum of ₦2.6 million that was erroneously transferred into his bank account by a Moniepoint customer.

​The Act of Integrity

​The unexpected windfall appeared as a credit alert on Muhammad's phone. Rather than succumbing to the temptation of a life-changing sum, the Constable, who serves in the Command's insurance office, took immediate action. He traced the source of the funds and ensured the entire amount was returned to its rightful owner without hesitation.

​Speaking on his decision, Muhammad stated that his primary motivation was to challenge the negative stereotypes often projected onto the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

​"Returning the money was simply the right thing to do," Muhammad explained. "I wanted to prove that honesty still exists within our institution and that we are here to serve with honor."


​Official Commendation

​The Borno State Police Command has officially recognized this rare act of professionalism. ASP Nahum Daso, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajeed, personally invited Muhammad for a meeting to express his commendation.

​The Commissioner highlighted that such conduct is essential for rebuilding public confidence in the police and serves as a blueprint for other officers to follow.

​Public Impact

​Since the news broke, Muhammad has been hailed as a hero on social media and within his local community. Many citizens have pointed to this incident as a reminder that individual character can shine through, even in challenging economic times.

​By prioritizing his oath of office over personal gain, Alhaji Muhammad has not only saved a citizen from financial loss but has also invested in the reputation of the entire Nigerian Police Force.
