Hope for Oba Market: Oredo Council Boss Steps In to Resolve Hamburger Traders’ Shop Dispute

​In a swift move to maintain peace and protect local livelihoods, the Executive Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council, Hon. Engr. Gabriel Iduseri, has intervened in the burgeoning crisis involving the Hamburger Traders Union at Oba Market.

 The intervention followed a spirited but peaceful protest by the traders, who marched to the Council Secretariat on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, the union members voiced their anxieties over alleged quit notices and the potential takeover of their long-held shops.

​Addressing the crowd directly, Hon. Iduseri emphasized his administration's unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and the protection of small business owners. He acknowledged the gravity of their concerns, noting that any threat to their shops is a direct threat to the economic stability of their families. Rather than allowing tensions to escalate, the Chairman sued for peace, assuring the traders that a transparent and thorough investigation into the allegations would commence immediately to ensure no legitimate trader is unfairly displaced.

​The dialogue took a constructive turn as the Council Boss bridged the gap between the traders' immediate fears and the government's long-term vision. He highlighted that the ongoing reconstruction of Oba Market—a flagship project of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration—is designed to modernize and improve the trading environment for everyone. While the development is essential for the city's progress, Hon. Iduseri promised that the process would be handled with the fairness that the people deserve.

​The engagement concluded on a note of mutual optimism. Hon. Iduseri urged the traders to remain law-abiding and supportive of the government’s efforts, specifically calling on them to cooperate with contractors to ensure the market’s completion. By fostering an atmosphere of harmony, the Chairman reaffirmed that his priority remains a prosperous Oredo where the rights of legitimate shop owners are respected and upheld.
