A Legacy of Love: Benin City Christian Mothers Bring Lenten Hope to Sapele Road Correctional Center

-By Ruben Mario Brodrick

In a beautiful fusion of faith and social action, the Confraternity of Christian Mothers of the Benin City Archdiocese celebrated the 2026 International Women’s Day by extending a hand of sisterhood to the inmates of the Correctional Center on Sapele Road. Led by the vision of the Archdiocesan President, Lady Erewa, and represented by the dedicated members of the Benin City Deanery, the women turned the global celebration into a profound act of Lenten devotion.

Recognizing charity as a fundamental pillar of the Lenten season, the mothers arrived not just with words of encouragement, but with a generous bounty of food items and essential supplies.

The atmosphere at the facility transformed as the women shared these gifts, sparking a wave of appreciation and joy among the inmates who were visibly moved by the noble gesture.

By stepping beyond the church walls to reach those often forgotten by society, the Christian Mothers demonstrated the true essence of their calling—bringing the compassion of a mother to the places where it is needed most.

The visit served as a powerful reminder that even behind bars, hope remains alive through the grace of charity. As they departed, the echoes of their mission remained rooted in their devotion: Mother of Sorrows, Queen of Peace, Pray for us.
