Honoring the Veterans of the Altar: Ahiara Diocese Hosts Landmark Seminar on the Psychology of Retirement for Senior Clergy

-By Ruben Mario Brodrick

In a proactive bid to ensure the holistic well-being and continuous formation of its eldest ministers, the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara organized a significant human resource workshop on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. Held at the Priests' Conference Hall within the Diocesan Secretariat, the seminar specifically targeted the "senior citizens" of the presbyterium—priests who have dedicated 30 years or more to the sacred ministry.

The event, centered on the timely theme "Psychology of Retirement: The Priest at the Threshold of Retirement," served as a vital platform for addressing the emotional and spiritual transitions that accompany the later years of active service. Facilitating the session was the Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Boniface Nwigwe, who utilized his extensive academic background and personal experience to provide deep intellectual and practical insights.

Throughout the exercise, Prof. Nwigwe guided the senior clergy through the unique joys and inevitable challenges of the retirement phase, offering a roadmap for a fulfilling transition. By prioritizing this specialized engagement, the Ahiara Diocese reaffirms its commitment to providing suitable care for its clergy across all age brackets, ensuring that those who have spent decades serving the people of God are themselves supported and cherished as they approach their golden years.
