OLOGBO, EDO STATE – In a bold move to cement Edo State’s status as Nigeria’s emerging industrial powerhouse, Governor Monday Okpebholo officially performed the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday for a massive energy dual-project: a 100-megawatt (MW) power plant and a 300-metric-ton-per-day Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility.

Located within the Taihu Industrial Park in Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha LGA, the project is designed to be the "beating heart" of the region’s manufacturing sector, promising thousands of jobs and a stable energy future for residents.

Key Highlights of the Project

The facility, which is being developed by CCETC, is more than just a utility plant; it is a strategic economic asset.

  • Energy Capacity: A 100MW plant to stabilize electricity for both industrial and residential use.
  • Cleaner Solutions: A 300-metric-ton daily LNG capacity to promote gas utilization and reduce carbon footprints.
  • Rapid Timeline: Project officials have set an ambitious six-month completion goal.
  • Industrial Synergy: The plant sits on 29 hectares of the Taihu Benin Industrial Park, providing a "plug-and-play" environment for new manufacturers.

"No More Fake MoUs"

During the ceremony, Governor Okpebholo emphasized that his administration is focused on tangible results rather than symbolic gestures.

“We are not signing fake Memoranda of Understanding; we are following the law to develop Edo State,” the Governor stated. “When we were approached, we didn’t waste time because we recognize that reliable electricity is the lifeblood of economic growth.”

The Governor further noted that this initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes power as a catalyst for national industrialization.

Local Impact and Community Support

The project has received a warm welcome from local leaders and the host community:

  • Hon. Eric Osawaru (Chairman, Ikpoba-Okha LGA): Hailed the project as a milestone for skills development and infrastructure growth.
  • Deacon Osazuwa (Community Representative): Praised the Governor for creating a secure, investor-friendly climate that has boosted local confidence.
  • Paul Usebor (Commissioner for Power): Highlighted that the plant will not only serve Edo but also strengthen the energy grid for neighboring regions.

The Road Ahead

As construction begins, the Edo State government has urged the Ologbo community to maintain peace and support the developers. With the first phase of the Taihu Industrial Park now underway, Edo State is positioning itself as a primary destination for both local and international manufacturing investments.
