Heartbreak in the Diocese: Nigerian Priest Slumps, Dies During Exercise in the US

​RAPID CITY, USA – The global Catholic community is reeling from the sudden and tragic loss of Rev. Fr. Michael Oli, a Nigerian priest who passed away while serving on mission in the United States.

​The heartbreaking news was confirmed in a formal statement released on March 27 by the Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Awka, Fr. Charles Ndubisi. According to the report, Fr. Oli met his untimely end on Thursday, March 26, under circumstances that have left parishioners and fellow clergy in deep shock.

​A Sudden Departure

​Fr. Oli, who was assigned to the Diocese of Rapid City in South Dakota, was reportedly engaging in a routine physical activity when the incident occurred.

​"He slumped and died while he was taking a walk," stated Fr. Ndubisi, describing the moment the missionary priest collapsed.


​Despite the immediate confirmation of his passing, the specific medical cause behind the collapse has not yet been made public.

​A Bridge Between Two Nations

​Fr. Michael Oli’s death marks a profound loss for two dioceses separated by thousands of miles.
